3 (Greek Apocalypse of) Baruch

Current State of the OCP Text

The Greek text of 3 Baruch is presented here as it appears in J.-C. Picard, ed., "Apocalypsis Baruchi Graece," in Testamentum Iobi, Apocalypsis Baruchi Graece (PVTG 2; Leiden: Brill, 1967), 81-96. Work has not yet begun on a critical apparatus of the Greek text and the Slavonic evidence has not yet been encoded.

** The standard edition. Presents the Greek text based on British Museum ms Add. 10073 and Andros (A), Monastery of the Hagia ms 46 (B). Picard explains that these two mss are extraordinarily close in their readings: "B provides no variant of significance from A, and often both provide the same errors, of both grammar and orthography" (p. 68). There are only two instances in which material is omitted by B but not by A: one in the title and the other in 6.16. Hence Picard's text remains essentially a transcription of ms A. While Picard has introduced many emmendations to the text, these are primarily to correct the orthography or misreadings resulting from phonological confusion (especially of vowels).
